JOANNE KING HERRING
Joanne King Herring has been a major contributor to Houston since hosting “The Joanne King Show” on television. It was while serving as Honorary consul to both Pakistan and Morocco she learned of the Soviet Union’s plan to conquer Afghanistan. Convinced that America was at risk, she began to make covert missions with a film crew to the Soviet Union to document Soviet soldiers attacking Afghan soldiers. The film about Joanne’s exploits, “Charlie Wilson’s War,” has been well received. Soon Joanne’s life story will be chronicled in a book authored by Nancy Dorman Hickson, with the working title, “Diamonds and Diplomacy.” Currently, because of her deep love and devotion for America, as well as her compassion for Afghanistan, she has formed Marshall Plan Charities, which will bring humanitarian aid to Afghanistan in order to retake the country without guns. The organization will support U. S. troops and protect America from another 9/11 and the proliferation of nuclear bombs in Pakistan. Joanne says it is the most important work of her life.
