Texas Arthroscopy & Sports Medicine Institute

A founding member of the renowned Southwest Orthopedic Group, Dr. Omer Ilahi is one of a select few Houston physicians not only Board Certified in Orthopedic Surgery, but additionally certified in Orthopedic Sports Medicine. Practicing since 1995, and specializing in minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery, he understands that individualized care is best achieved through patient input.
Graduating summa cum laude from Rice University, Dr. Ilahi went on to earn his M.D. with High Honors. During his orthopedic residency he trained under prominent surgeons at The Methodist Hospital, such as James Bocell, arguably one of the best arthroscopic knee surgeons. Dr. Ilahi then completed a sports medicine fellowship at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.
Having authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific articles, Dr. Ilahi also is on the Editorial Board of Arthroscopy, a premier scientific journal for arthroscopic surgery. “Being actively involved in research forces you to keep abreast of the very latest developments in your field, and critically examine claims of success of new devices and procedures.” Dr. Ilahi also founded the Texas Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine Institute (www.tasmi.org) to further research and education about arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine.
Dr. Ilahi gives back to the community by volunteering as physician for several area high school teams such as the Dayton Broncos, a football state championship finalist in 2008. He has served as President of the Texas Society of Sports Medicine (www.tssm.org) and is a Founders Circle member of the non-profit Texas Orthopaedic Foundation (www.toafoundation.org).
