Experience the colors, sounds, and tastes of Japan, at Japan Fest! Taking place on Saturday, April 13th and Sunday, April 14th 2013 at the Reflection Pool in Hermann Park, this event offers free admission for all visitors and fun for the whole family!
Don’t miss the engaging sounds of Japanese Taiko Drummers, vibrant kimonos, graceful dancers, and Ikebana floral arrangements. Come see the very popular Anime Costume Contest, showcasing incredible costumes and characters, and the first-ever Kawaii Fashion Show, featuring modern Japanese style. Make sure you come hungry, since the festival hosts a wide variety of rich Japanese cuisine.
The Japan Festival was first created in 1993, and this year marks its 20th anniversary! Every year Houstonians look forward to this dynamic Hermann Park favorite! It is one of the most highly-attended cultural festivals in Houston. Last year over 28,000 patrons strolled through during the 2-day festival!
In honor of its 20th anniversary, this year’s theme is “Arigato, Houston!” The theme expresses gratitude to the Houston community because “Arigato” means “thank you” in Japanese, and the festival would not be able to continue and be free to the public without the generous interest and support from Houstonians. This year, Houston also celebrates the 41st anniversary of its sister city relationship with Chiba City, Japan. Throughout the years, Houstonians have been very generous in their support for the Japan-Relief Fund for Tsunami Victims, and local Japanese cultural organizations and businesses, so this year’s Japan Fest would like to “Thank you, Houston!”
The festival hours are 10AM to 7PM Saturday, April 13th and 10AM to 5PM Sunday, April 14th.
The annual Japan Fest is presented by the Japan-America Society of Houston, and is supported by the following community organizations: The Consulate-General of Japan in Houston; Japan Business Association of Houston; Japanese Association of Greater Houston; Japanese American Citizens League Houston Chapter; Houston Parks and Recreation Department; & Hermann Park Conservatory.
