Azul Sensatori

Gourmet Inclusive treatment at the Azul Sensatori has Vicki Dill thinking deep thoughts

2 1/2 hours…

If you’re lucky it takes 2 1/2 hours to drive from one side of Houston to the other and back. It takes 2 1/2 hours to watch the latest movie. It takes longer than 2 1/2 hours to bathe and blow-dry my three high maintenance dogs!

I’ve recently discovered a better way to spend 2 1/2 hours. Book a quick and convenient non-stop flight from Houston to Cancun and spend a luxurious weekend at the Karisma resort, Azul Sensatori. The resort is a short 20-minute ride from the airport. Lomas Travel’s transfer van offers cold beverages to start your vacation.

Upon arrival, the calm atmosphere and contemporary, yet peaceful architecture feed your senses. “Satori” is a Buddhist term meaning a state of sudden spiritual enlightenment.  The beautiful property is not only a vacation destination. It’s a chance to stimulate your mind, body, soul, and relationships while escaping daily hassles.

The gourmet inclusive mantra at the Azul Sensatori compliments your stress free vacation. It’s all-inclusive and it’s fabulous!  The food is high class; drinks plentiful. There is something for everyone from the nightly entertainment to the 24-hour room service. Put your wallet in the safe – you won’t need it until you leave. Now, that’s a vacation!

The resort is decorated in serene shades of tan and white with sultry, dark woods. The pools are extravagant, yet minimal with in-water lounge chairs and several sexy swim up bars.

I visited in November and appreciated the lack of mindless pool activities like volleyball and Trivial Pursuit. As you relax, your senses become your entertainment. The lounge chairs feel like comfortable beds plunging your mind into deep thought.

The ocean sounds on this beachfront property allow you to focus and think deeply. There are no distractions from local vendors; just thatched umbrellas and attentive, unobtrusive, staff. Yards down the beach you’ll find sailboats, parasailing and other water sports available for an additional fee.

My balcony had a glass wall and a comfortable lounge chair with a view of the winding pools and ocean – the perfect location to enjoy the cool, calm vibe of the resort.

One of the highlights of the resort is the14,000-square-foot Vassa Spa and Fitness Center. At the Beachfront Sky Massage, patrons indulge in secluded outdoor massage just inches from the ocean. The spa reiterates the Zen feel of the resort with the sounds of flowing water, healing scents and natural light.  Treat your body like a temple by choosing from many services utilizing elements of the earth such as clay, honey, obsidian and chocolate.

Your body and especially your stomach will be delighted with the resort’s cuisine. The variety of restaurants ranging from pool-side casual to elegant dining tantalize your taste buds. I was there on a quick girl’s celebration weekend, so I didn’t have the opportunity to feast on all the divine offerings, but one of my favorite meals was at the Italian restaurant, Sienna.  The restaurant has an authentic Italian feel and was a hit with our entire party.  We also enjoyed Tapaz, their Spanish style restaurant, which is perfect for large groups.  The ocean front beach grill has a great atmosphere – much like an upscale beach picnic.

The room accommodations at Azul Sensatori are stylish in an organically elegant way.  The natural rock used in the tiles, the dark woods and the fabrics used in the bedding prolong a peaceful feeling.  In addition to an over-sized bathroom and a showerhead one only dreams of, there is a Jacuzzi tub so close to the balcony you can see the sky and hear the ocean waves. Combine your bath with a chilled bottle of champagne and all your worries are left behind.
Azul Sensatori is a perfect place to rejuvenate your romantic relationships with the sensual massages and in room Jacuzzis. The weekend I visited, there were three weddings and many anniversary celebrations.  In addition to keeping the spark alive with your partner, the Azul Sensatori is perfect for family reunions. Multiple-family vacations are perfect for the family-oriented suites that sleep two adults and three children.  Azul Sensatori also offers a fantastic kids’ program, Azulitos Kids Club.

This hidden gem is hip, affordable and convenient for the perfect romantic getaway.  It is secluded enough for a couple and entertaining enough for families with members of all ages. Use your time wisely.  Book the 2 1/2 hour flight and head to the Karisma resort, Azul Sensatori for an escape that feeds ALL your senses.
