A $1,000 sea-going kayak will be raffled at the annual “Help Float the Boat” festival and fund raiser on Saturday, October 8 benefitting Galveston’s leading conservation and education program, Artist Boat.
Sea Kayaker Magazine says the Manitou 14 kayak is comfortable, easy-to-use and handles well in all kinds of sea conditions. Made entirely from recycled materials, the kayak was donated by Necky Kayaks and will be on display at MOD Coffee House starting in mid-August.
Event organizers note that an estimated $25,000 in goods and services will be auctioned the night of the festival, including a variety of top-quality merchandise and gift certificates provided by local merchants. Also up for auction will be art from many of Galveston’s leading artists. Admission is free.
About Artist Boat:
Artist Boat promotes the well-being of the Gulf’s coastal and marine environments. In pursuit of that mission, the organization has conducted kayaking tours for 14,000 middle school students and trained more than 1,300 teachers to conduct integrated art- and science learning programs. Since 2008, the organization has helped students and teachers restore more than 15 acres of dunes, prairies and wetlands damaged by Hurricane Ike.
